Just got a Scheepers seed-starting timetable in my in-box! We are in zone 6, so we have a little time for the eight-week seeds, but not a lot. End of February will be here before you know it.
The folks at Scheepers recommend Barbara Damrosch’s The Garden Primer: Second Editionfor anyone starting out or just looking for tips.

Trouble in Paradise
This article from the LA Times last month highlights a chronic problem for community gardens: folks get ‘em and then they don’t tend ‘em. Sometimes it’s because they like the idea of gardening better than the hard-working reality.

red-tailed hawks nest above victory gardens
Hello - I’m a wildlife photographer and I was in Boston for a few hours, so I decided to check out The Fens where I’d heard red-tailed hawks were common. It didn’t take long to find them… while walking thru Fenway Victory Gardens, a hawk flew overhead with a twig in its talons and I saw it land in a tree just above my head… I was standing right under their nest!
