Vandalism in the Victory Gardens and What We Can...
Yesterday I got an email from a distraught gardener whose fence had been pushed down and her entire vegetable garden totally demolished the night before.  It was a heartbreaking act of senseless vandalism that destroyed months of blood, sweat and tears.  Most of us have experienced something like this, but I had never seen such wanton destruction of a well-tended garden just coming into its...

Gratitude and Hope
Back in early November of 2010 when I announced I would run for the position of President of the Executive Board of the Fenway Garden Society, I included in my goals something called a “Teaching Garden.” (I first wrote about it on my personal blog as far back as August, as I contemplated a board position and started thinking seriously about how to promote community within the...

The Fourth is First-Class at FGS
4th of July fireworks light up the sky over the Esplanade. The best in the spirit of volunteerism was in full force as the Fenway Garden Society celebrated Independence Day at a cook-out in the Victory Garden. Dozens of FGS members pitched in to make the event an opportunity to party down with our gardening neighbors. Mauricio prepares the grill for the main event. Preparations for the cook-out...
